Hello, I’m Melissa.

The solo owner, designer, baker & cake artist behind Bear Brook Bakery in Maine. My favorite childhood memories are of my home and family adventures in the Poconos where I grew up, and where I also vividly remember baking my very first hand-picked mini blueberry pie for my daddy.  My very young self mistakenly measured in salt when the recipe called for sugar - and though he didn’t eat very much, my dad never said a word!  I found out about the mixup long afterward, but my excitement for expressing love for others through baking was already deeply planted, and I eagerly assisted my mom in the kitchen and developed my skills.  

After graduating highschool, I obtained a degree in neuroscience at BYU, Utah, met and married a true-blue Mainer, and eventually landed back here to raise our little family.  During this time, I refined my caking skills by designing custom sculpted cakes for my five children, and special treats for willing friends, and family, before establishing my business in 2012. Bear Brook Bakery has since flourished into a thriving custom homebased cake design studio, where taste, design and care are upheld in equal measure.  Whether I’m working on a super clean and classic silhouette or a gravity-defying sculpted groom’s cake, I adore perfecting every little detail and creating centerpieces of delectable edible art!

I truly love baking, and creating cakes is my passion.  Each client I meet is celebrating something, and I love being a part of that!  I hope you enjoy browsing my work, and I look forward to creating something sweet for your special celebration!
